March for Science

Saturday, April 14th, get ready to March for Science.

If you have two legs, twenty minutes, love and enthusiasm for the sciences, or are just looking for gramable pictures, this is the event for you. Scientists and science supporters from around the globe are organizing this Saturday to give voice to concerns that are real for all of us: that the public should have access to scientific information, that we should continue scientific funding and research, and (re)establishing science as a source of valuable information and sign of progress that is not limited by borders or nationalities. This march is an opportunity to once again celebrate what science as a field does for all of us, from medicine to food to environmental sustainability, and to voice how we want to continue to support it.

As WINS scholars, we have a special connection to this Saturday, as we each think about our own relationship to our different and varied fields. To the anthropologist and the chemist among us, this is an opportunity to get together with our fellow scholars and New Yorkers, as well as people around the world, who share and support our common interests. As we specialize and grow used to our own corner of the science world, it can be easy to get so engrossed in our work, we lose sight of our connections to our fellow scientists around the globe, who share our appreciation for the work we do.

So if you’re willing to walk a mile, or decorate a poster, or even just clap for a bit, I encourage you to be part of the March for Science this Saturday, April 16th. Who knows, you might even cop a great gram picture of you taking down some anti-science Trump believers.
